Raymond W. Yow, 81, of Modesto, Ill., formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 1995, in Carlinville Area Hospital at Carlinville, Ill. Raymond W. Yow, 81, of Modesto, Ill., formerly of Cape Girardeau, died Thursday, Nov. 9, 1995, in Carlinville Area Hospital at Carlinville, Ill.

He was born July 3, 1914, in Cape Girardeau, son of William Thomas and Mary Ann Tripp Yow.

He is survived by his wife, Lorene Gilbert Yow; sons, Timothy R. Yow of Charleston, Ill., and Mark A. Yow of Springfield, Ill.; daughters Darla Franklin of Lincoln, Ill., and Donna Sarff of Havana, Ill.; stepsons, Harold Thomas of Charleston, Md., and Chuck Thomas of Athens, Ill.; 19 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Two sisters and one brother preceded him in death.

Yow graduated from Southeast Missouri State University and attended a Baptist seminary in Indiana. He was an ordained Baptist minister for 50 years, serving churches in Illinois, including Kilburn, Palmyra and Martins Prairie. He also taught for many years in Illinois schools, including Petersburg, Mount Auburn and Sullivan.

He was a member of Martins Prairie Baptist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and was the first president of Silver Strands Senior Group in Palmyra. He served in the CC camps in the 1930s.

Service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Stuits-Neece Funeral Home in Palmyra. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery in Palmyra.

Friends may call Sunday at the funeral home from 3 to 8 p.m.
