STE. GENEVIEVE, Mo. -- Raymond A. Sommer, 86, of Ste. Genevieve died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2007, at Ste. Genevieve County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Oct. 27, 1920, in Perryville, Mo., son of William Henry and Minerva Sophia Mecker Sommer. He and Dorothy M. Wichern were married Oct. 6, 1946.
Sommer retired as fitting room supervisor at International Shoe Co. He was a member of Holy Cross Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ste. Genevieve, and American Legion Post 114 in Batesville, Ark. He was formerly of Perryville.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, James Sommer of Martinsburg, W.Va.; a brother, Wallace Sommer of O'Fallon, Mo.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, and from 6:30 to 9 a.m. Thursday at Young and Sons Funeral Home in Perryville, and from 10 a.m. to service time Thursday at Holy Cross Lutheran Church.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Lawrence Bradt officiating. Burial will be in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery at Perryville, with military rites by American Legion Post 133.
