THEBES, Ill. -- Raymond Charles Snell, 71, of Thebes, Ill., passed away at 1:26 a.m. Sunday, June 2, 2013, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Raymond was born Dec. 24, 1941, in Cairo, Ill., son of the late Charley Snell and Flossie E. Miller Snell.

Raymond was a member of the Alexander Freewill Baptist Church in rural Thebes; past president and former secretary for the Southern Illinois Electric Cooperative Board at Dongola, Ill., retiring after 33 years of service; and was a former member for many years with the Association of Illinois Electric Cooperatives.

Raymond worked, managed, owned and operated the Snell Service Station in Olive Branch, Ill., from 1966 to 1996 and was a retired farmer.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, George and Robert B. Snell.

Survivors include his wife, Anna L. Lovell Snell of Thebes; a brother, Lloyd Eugene Snell of Olympia, Wash.; a host of nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Alexander Freewill Baptist Church in rural Thebes.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with Pastor Earnest Brown officiating. Interment will be in the Twente Cemetery in rural Thebes.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of memorials to the Tribute Program, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1942 in memory of Raymond Snell.
