Raymond A. Kassel, 75, of St. Charles, a resident of Frohna for 37 years, died Friday, April 14, 2000, at St. Joseph Health Center in St. Charles.

He was born Jan. 22, 1925, in Farrar, the son of Henry and Erna Kassel. He married Fern Kassel on July 11, 1954, in Farrar.

He was a sawmill worker and was employed by the East Perry Lumber Co. in Frohna for 26 years. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Frohna until May 1999 when he moved to St. Charles. He served as an elder and sang in the church choir. He was a member of the Men's Club and Sunday school superintendent.

He had been a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Charles since May and was a member of the Early Morning Bible Study Group and the Immanuel Lutheran Garden Club.

He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Phyllis E. Kassel of St. Charles; three sisters, Ruth Verseman of Chesterfield, Louise Mahnken of Frohna and Vivian Schirmer of Altenburg; four brothers, Leonard Kassel and Eugene Kassel, both of Frohna, and Elvin and Norbert Kassel, both of Perryville; two stepsisters, Thelma Steffens of Altenburg and Irene Barber of Jackson; and a stepbrother, Lloyd Schuessler of St. Louis.

He was preceded in death by a sister, a stepmother and a stepbrother.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Baue Funeral Home in St. Charles, and on Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Charles from 9:30 to time of service. Service will be at the church at 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Burial will be at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in St. Charles.
