BLOOMFIELD -- Raymond J. Smith, 84, of Bloomfield, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 1994, at Missouri Delta Community Hospital. He was born Jan. 28, 1910, in Clarkton, son of John Elvin and Della Magee Smith. He and Evelyn Burns were married March 19, 1934. She preceded him in death. He and Vivian Alsup Mayo were married in 1979.
Smith was a 1928 graduate of Bloomfield High School. He worked 42 years at General Motors in Flint, Mich. He had been a member and deacon at Hopewell General Baptist Church in Mount Morris, Mich.
Since returning to Bloomfield in 1979, he had been a member and deacon at St. Joe General Baptist Church in Idalia.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, John Smith of Chesterfield, Daniel Smith of Grand Blanc, Mich., Jerry Smith of Mount Morris; a stepson, James Mayo of Bloomfield; a twin sister, Ruth Asa of Mount Morris; eight grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother and stepson.
Friends may call at Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home after 4 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dan Sitze officiating.
A memorial service will also be held at Hopewell Church in Mount Morris, with burial in a cemetery there.
