DUDLEY -- Raymond "Jockey" Hayes, 81, of Dudley died Thursday, Sept. 19, 1996, at Dexter Memorial Hospital in Dexter.

He was born June 4, 1915, in Anna, Ill., son of Oliver Oscar and Oma Victoria Smothers Hayes. He and Alberta Thomas were married Nov. 12, 1938, in Dudley.

Hayes was a retired painter and interior decorator and had worked at Busy B Lumber Co. in Dexter. He was a member of Dudley Community Church. Hayes served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Gary Hayes of Poplar Bluff, Donald Hayes of Dexter; two daughters, Pansy Bolster of Dudley, Judith Williamson of Dongola, Ill.; a brother, Carl Hayes of Gastonia, N.C.; a sister, Gladys Chase of Puxico; 13 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. T.R. "Bud" Meadows officiating. Burial will be in Hagy Cemetery at Dexter.
