Raymond Hankla

JONESBORO, Ill. -- Raymond Delavon Hankla, 90, of Jonesboro died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, at Jonesboro Healthcare Center.

He was born March 4, 1912, in Cobden, Ill., son of Joseph T. and Martha Henderson Hankla. He and Ruth Meyer were married Sept. 19, 1942, in Cape Girardeau.

Hankla owned and operated a garage and body shop, and then retired from the State Garage in Carbondale, Ill. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Jonesboro Lions Club, lifelong member of Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455, and served on Jonesboro School Board.

He was a veteran of World War II and participated in the invasion of Normandy. He was awarded the Silver Star.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Susan Rhodes of Anna, Ill., Loretta Sitter of Jonesboro; a son, Kenneth Hankla of Pinckneyville, Ill.; a brother, Clifton Hankla of Orange, Calif.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, three sisters, and three brothers.

Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Anna after 1 p.m. Friday.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Prater officiating. Burial will be in Jonesboro Cemetery.
