THEBES, Ill. -- Raymond E. Benefield, 70, of Thebes died at 7:41 p.m. Monday, Aug. 6, 2001, on arrival at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 17, 1930, in McClure, Ill., son of Ray and Bertha Groves Benefield. He married Donna Parks Nov. 3, 1957.
Benefield attended First Free Will Baptist Church at Olive Branch, Ill. He was retired from CPC International in Pekin, Ill. He enjoyed fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Donna of Thebes; three daughters, Lori (Ty) Delaware of Pekin, Lyn (Scott) Hodgson of Green Valley, Ill., Leigh Benefield of Springfield, Ill.; two sons, Lance (Sharon) Benefield of Oregon City, Ore., Lyle (Debbie) Benefield of Pekin; his mother, Bertha Benefield of Thebes; two sisters, Elizabeth Benefield of McClure, Pauline (Doug) McGee of Brunswick, Ohio; a brother, Don (Grace) Benefield of Thebes; 10 grandchildren; nieces, nephews and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his father; a daughter, Lisa Rae Benefield, Jan. 20, 1959; and a brother, Bill Benefield.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Crain Funeral Home in Tamms, Ill. The Rev. Curt Alderson will officiate. Burial will be in Lindsey Cemetery at McClure.
