Ray Warren Call, a civic leader and long-time president of Missouri Utilities Co. here, died Monday, July 22, 1991, at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was 78.

He was president of Missouri Utilities Co. from 1960 until retiring in 1977. He was also president of Cape Girardeau Chamber of Commerce from 1955-57.

Call was born Feb. 11, 1913, in Hoisington, Kan., son of Ralph B. and Charlotte Petersen Call. He and Margaret Abrahamson were married Dec. 26, 1937, in Macksville, Kan.

Survivors include his wife; a son and daugther-in-law, Roger and Karen Call of Hudsonville, Mich.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Eugenie and Lael Johnson of Evanston, Ill., Gwendolyn and John Hogin of Turlock, Calif., and seven grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Call was a member of Christ Presbyterian Church, and was a trustee emeritus at Southeast Missouri Hospital. He was a member of Southwest Atomic Energy Association for research and development of the first reactor facility, working with scientists from five European countries.

He was director of First National Bank from 1968-79, and was an officer of First Development Finance Corp. He was a trustee of Greater Cape Girardeau Industrial Development Corp.

Call served with the following organizations: Southeast Hospital Board 1961-79, and chairman of hospital fund drive; chairman of Shawnee District Boy Scouts and on Eagle Scout Board of Review; president of Evening Optimist Club 1958-59; president of Missouri Chapter of Professional Engineers; board of Cape Girardeau County Crippled Children's Society; State Advisory Council for the Extension of University of Missouri, and had been secretary/director of North Main Street Levee District.

Call was listed in Who's Who In the Midwest. He served as a member of Missouri 4-H, where he was vice chairman in 1972-73, chairman in 1974-75, and was honored in 1980 for his years of service.

Funeral service will be at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel. The Rev. Thomas Shoger will officiate. The service will be preceded by private burial in Lorimier Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. today.
