Ray Plummer

MARBLE HILL, Mo. — Ray E. Plummer, 89, of Marble Hill died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 24, 1919, in Colorado, son of Jessie and Amelia Plummer. He and Ruby Benton were married March 6, 1948. She died June 3, 2001.

Plummer retired as a teacher from McKinley School in Canon City, Colo., where he coached football, track and volleyball.

He was voted Teacher of the Year in 1971, was a founding member of Christian Family Fellowship Church in Canon City, member of American Association of Retired Persons and member of New Salem Baptist Church in Marble Hill.

Plummer served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Enterprise during World War II.

Survivors include three brothers, Marvin, Melvin and Vernon Cryer, all of Oklahoma; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter and a brother.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time Thursday at Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Randy Poole officiating.

Visitation will also be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Holt Family Funeral Home in Canon City.

Another service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Holt Funeral Home, with Pastor Chill officiating. Burial will be in a Canon City cemetery with full military honors.
