Ray F. Lipe, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Dexter, Mo., son of Harrison Benjamin and Callie Prudence Crawford Lipe. He married Helen Louise Snider Nov. 1, 1941, in Cape Girardeau...

Ray F. Lipe, 80, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at The Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 3, 1921, in Dexter, Mo., son of Harrison Benjamin and Callie Prudence Crawford Lipe.

He married Helen Louise Snider Nov. 1, 1941, in Cape Girardeau.

He served in the Army during World War II from July 21, 1942, to Oct. 15, 1945, serving in battle at Central Europe, Rhineland, Normandy, Northern France and Ardennes. He was awarded five Bronze Stars and a Good Conduct Medal. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3838 and served in the National Guard over 20 years, retiring as master sergeant. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

He had worked for Sunny Hill Dairy for 12 years, Farrar Dairy and in maintenance at the VFW Hall, retiring in 1991.

Survivors include his wife, Helen Louise Lipe of Cape Girardeau; a son Rodney Jerome Lipe of Cape Girardeau; a daughter Sheila Rae Allen of Jackson, Mo.; a grandchild; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister and a granddaughter.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford & Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Raymond Epps officiating.

Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau. Graveside military rites will be conducted by VFW Post 3838 and the Missouri National Guard.
