Ray Bennett

Ray Grady Bennett, 87, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Wappapello and Scott City, Mo., died Sunday, Oct. 7, 2001, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born Dec. 20, 1913, in Magnolia, Ark., son of Oscar and Mary Hill Bennett. He married the former Emma Kruse July 25, 1939, at Bazile Mills, Neb.

Mr. Bennett worked on gas department crews for Union Electric in Dexter, Mo., Cape Girardeau and Scott City. He and his wife owned and operated the Rainbow Drive-In in Scott City from 1961 to 1974.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Robert E. (Jeannie Hayes) Bennett of Rich Hill, Mo.; a daughter, Carol (David) Roth of Jackson, Mo.; a sister, Lois Patterson of Haywood, Calif.; nine grandchildren, David Jr. and Daniel Roth, Matthew and Travis Bennett, Deborah Roth Rockrohr, Cynthia Bennett McBee, Kim Bennett, Kari Jo Bennett Green, Kathleen Bennett; and four great-grandchildren, Paul, James, Rebecca and Theodore Rockrohr.

A son Harvey (Carol Ware), a brother, and a sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call Friday from 4-8 p.m. at Hanover Lutheran Church. There will be closing prayers at 7:45 p.m.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the church. The Rev. Jeffrey Sippy will officiate, assisted by Vicar Matthew Cantu. Committal service will follow in Eisleben Cemetery at Scott City.
