DONGOLA, Ill. -- Randal L. Lawrence Jr., 80, of Dongola died Sunday, May 17, 1998, at his home.
He was born June 27, 1917, at Cobden, son of Randal L. and Mabel Hardin Lawrence Sr. He and Mary Sadler were married Dec. 17, 1948, at Cobden. She died June 16, 1982.
Lawrence was retired from the accounting department at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and had owned and operated Lawrence Box and Basket Factory in Cobden.
He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, life member of Masonic Lodge 466 AF&AM, and life member of American Legion Post 259, all in Cobden. He had served on the Cobden School Board, and was a past commander of the American Legion.
Survivors include three sons, Randy Lawrence of Dongola, Robert and Steven Lawrence of Cobden; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a son and a sister.
Friends may call at Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden after 6 p.m. today. A Masonic service will be held at 8.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Richard Ryman officiating. Burial will be in Cobden Cemetery, with graveside rites by the American Legion.
