Barnes, 84, died Saturday, Aug. 23, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.

He was born Sept. 26, 1912, in East Prairie, son of Edward L. and Hattie Huffman Barnes. He and Maxine Davis were married June 30, 1977. She died July 4, 1989.

Barnes retired as an accountant with Stewart Steel in Sikeston.

Survivors include a brother, Jerry Barnes of Sherman Oaks, Calif.
