Rachel L. Smith, 18, of Jackson died Tuesday, Feb. 25, 2003, in a fire at her home.
She was born Oct. 25, 1984, in Phoenix, Ariz., daughter of Wade K. and Roxann B. Bishop Smith.
Smith had lived in Jackson several years. She was a senior honor student at Jackson High School, member of the varsity track team, and was in choir. She qualified and attended Missouri State Track finals. She had been accepted into the aeronautical engineering program at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. She attended Cape Girardeau First Assembly Church.
Survivors include her parents of Overland Park, Kan.; maternal grandparents, Bill and Joann Bishop of Phoenix; and maternal great-grandfather, Frank Jaracz of Detroit, Mich.
She was preceded in death by paternal grandparents and maternal great-grandmother.
Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4 to 9 p.m. today.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. The Rev. Michael Wright will officiate.
