CHARLESTON, Mo. -- Rachel Ann Mix, 75, of Charleston died Monday, April 13, 2009, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.

She was born Dec. 5, 1933, in Colbert County, Ala., to the late Samuel Ervin and Neva Virginia Rutherford Smith.

Mix had lived in Charleston since 1950 and had been employed as a secretary for Mississippi County Library, Dr. T.P. Fenton, Dr. Henry Rzonca, Mississippi County DAEOC office and at Missouri Delta Medical Center until her retirement in 1985. She was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church in Charleston.

She married Royce Mix Feb. 5, 1955.

Survivors include her husband; two sons and daughters-in-law, Ronnie and Cindy Mix of Lathrop, Calif., Mike and Stephanie Mix of Barlow, Ky.; three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Jim Russell of New Madrid, Mo., Paula Summers of Paducah, Ky., Eddie Summers of Barlow, Teresa and Tom Showmaker of Charleston; a brother, Cecil Ray Smith of Muscle Shoals, Ala.; and a sister, Reba Laster of Sikeston.

Also 14 grandchildren, Morgan Mix, Ashleigh Mix, Paul Summers, Matthew Summers, Jamie Russell, Leslie and Daniel Sutton, Hannah Showmaker, Jason Showmaker, Nicki Jones, Vicki Mix, Steven Mix, Heather Mix, Thomas Mix, Michael Mix Jr.; and four great-grandchildren, Jillian, Brooklyn, Aiken and Samuel.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Russell and Ralph Smith; and two sisters, Ruby Trkula and Ruth Smith.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston.

The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Rev. Gerald Collier of Ironton, Mo., and the Rev. Michael Brewer, pastor of First Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate. Interment will follow in IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be Jamie Russell, Paul Summers, Matthew Summers, Jason Showmaker, Steven Mix, Thomas Mix and Michael Mix Jr.
