BERNIE -- Preyear Alfred Turman, 79, of Bernie died Monday, Jan. 10, 2000, at Dexter Memorial Hospital.
He was born Dec. 28, 1920, in Jonesboro, Ark., the son of Henry Clay and Ongie Chaptman Turman. He married Nellie Gulledge in Malden in October 1938. She died March 5, 1957. He later married Pauline Sills at Bloomfield on May 29, 1959. She survives.
He was a farmer in the Bernie area and a Baptist.
He also is survived by four sons, Keith Turman, Kip Turman and Bob Smith, all of Bernie, Chuck Turman of Campbell; four daughters, Sandy Stone and Cathy Tanner, both of Bernie, Sharon Slinkard of High Ridge, and Tammy Sides of Festus; a brother, Amos Turman of Decatur, Ill.; a sister, Ivabell Lanier of St. Louis; 18 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
He also was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers and two sisters.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the Rainey Funeral Home in Bernie.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Rainey Chapel, with the Rev. Tim Russell officiating.
Burial will be at Malden Memorial Park.
