Preston Lee Adams, 83, of Cape Girardeau died Wednesday, July 21, 2004, at Missouri Veterans Home.

He was born Nov. 17, 1920, in Corning, Ark., son of George and Mattie C. Watson Adams. He and Jeannee Vahlberg were married Oct. 14, 1981, in Oklahoma City, Okla.

Adams had lived at the Veterans Home since 1996. He was a major in the U.S. Army and served during World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include his wife of Oklahoma City; two sons, Kent Adams of Winter Springs, Fla., Phillip Adams of Oklahoma City; two daughters, Penny Forbes of Elkhart, Kan., Leah Wells of Oklahoma City; a brother, Burl Adams of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Mildred Hicks and Glenna Taylor of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother and a grandchild.

There is no visitation.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Corning Cemetery.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
