Portell Andre Thomas, 59, of Cape Girardeau passed away peacefully in his sleep in the early morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2021, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 19, 1962, in St Louis to Willie Jean Thomas.
Portell loved working five days a week at VIP Industries, the Sheltered Workshop in Cape Girardeau, for 22 years. He liked to bowl in his free time with his friends, and he enjoyed going to productions put on by local high schools and the River Campus. He fellowshipped with two church families.
Portell liked to celebrate holidays, such as Halloween and Christmas, and he thought his birthday should be a national holiday.
He had a bubbly personality and never met a stranger. He loved to be with his peers and would kid and joke with them. He loved his life and everyone in it. All that knew him loved him. He will be greatly missed.
Survivors include his mother, Willie Jean Thomas; a sister, Jatinia Thomas; three brothers, Cedrick, Xanthan and Cepega Thomas; two aunts, Patricia Love and Barbara Wynn; and several nieces and nephews, all of St. Louis. Also surviving are aunts in California and Arkansas.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Rev. Steven Vester officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
