Phyllis Thompson

Phyllis A. Thompson, 72, of Jackson passed away Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at the Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girar-deau.

She was born Feb. 28, 1935, in Leadwood, Mo., daughter of Morgan "Sid" and Bessie House Stroup. She and David Thompson were married Sept. 19, 1954, in Leadwood.

Phyllis was a 1953 graduate of Leadwood High School. She and her husband Dave moved to Jackson in 1968 and have been members of First Baptist Church in Jackson since 1969.

Phyllis worked as a secretary in Jackson for the former Goodson Realty and Construction Company and later the office of Dr. Kenneth Detring.

Survivors include her loving husband of 53 years; son John N. (Marcia) Thompson and children, John Paul "JP" and Emily of Jackson; daughter-in-law, Vicki Thompson of Jonesboro, Ark., and children Staci (Brian) Beussink and their children Brett, Anna, Sydney and Jayden of Jackson; Valeri (Chad) Hudson and daughter Riley of Beebe, Ark.; Philip (April) Thompson and daughter Taylor of Beebe; two brothers, Tom Stroup of Jackson and Denny (Rhonda) Stroup of Imperial, Mo.; sister-in-law Colleen Stroup of Warrington, Fla. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Master Sergeant Philip David Thompson, and one brother, Albert Stroup.

To anyone who knew her, she was a woman with a gift of hospitality and generosity. She deeply appreciated her friends' loving support and prayers during her illness.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Carter Frey officiating.

Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.

Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, American Lung Association or the First Baptist Church of Jackson.
