Phyllis Dockins Lewis, 98, of Jackson died Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
She was born Feb. 1, 1906, in Sparta, Ill., daughter of Harvey and Margariete Cox McManus. She and C.P. "Pal" Dockins were married March 19, 1923. He died Dec. 2, 1961. On Jan. 29, 1972, she and Richard Lewis married. He died July 15, 2004.
She and her first husband, Pal, owned and operated the Dockins Grocery & Produce Store in Burfordville for many years, where both had served as postmasters. She was a charter member and past president of the Burfordville Homemakers Club. She was also a former member of the Burfordville Baptist Chruch, where she had served as a Sunday school teacher in the youth and adult departments. Lewis retired as postmaster on Sept. 28, 1973. After moving to Jackson in 1976, she became a member of the First Baptist Church in Jackson.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Colyer; a son, Bruce Dockins, both of Jackson; three stepsons, Dr. Robert Lewis of Port Angeles, Wash., Dick Lewis of Pearl River, N.Y., Don Lewis of Brazeau, Mo.; a stepdaughter, Mary Ann Haynes of Cape Girardeau; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; 10 stepgrandchildren and 15 great-stepgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, two sisters and a great-granddaughter.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Raymond V. Epps and Carter Frye officiating. Burial will be in Russell Heights Cemetery.
