CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Phyllis R. Hamm, 78, of Chaffee passed away Saturday, Sept. 1, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
She was born in Chaffee on Jan. 23, 1934, to the late Raymond Earl and Thelma Marie Schott Jones.
Phyllis married James Roby Rogers on Sept. 23, 1950, and he preceded her in death Aug. 22, 1958. She married Norman "Cowboy" Hamm on July 20, 1963, and he preceded her in death Sept. 10, 1982.
She was a cook for Chaffee General Hospital, and she retired from Environmental Services at Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee and belonged to the Daughters of St. Ambrose. Phyllis was a member of the Chaffee American Legion Post 389 and International Brotherhood Teamsters No. 573.
Survivors include two sons, Steve (Linda) Rogers of New Madrid, Mo., and Larry Rogers of Seattle; a daughter, Janie (Jim) Fowler of Chaffee; a brother, Gary (Judy) Jones of Chaffee; two sisters, Judy Davis of Chaffee and Cindy (Mike) Wibbenmeyer of Friedheim; three grandchildren, Amy (Lucas) Branson of Linn, Mo., Molly Fowler (Tyler Cookson) of Boston, Kori (Neal) Grossheider of Valdosta, Ga.; two stepgrandchildren, Stacy (John) Pikey of New Madrid and Ronnie (Kristine) Adams of Portageville, Mo.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Earl Jones; a granddaughter, Ashley Rogers of New Madrid; a great-stepgranddaughter, Sydney Beth Pikey; and longtime companion, Guy Bunyard.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. today at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Chaffee, with the Rev. Randy Tochtrop as celebrant. Burial will be at Forest Hills Memorial Gardens near Morley, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to St. Ambrose Catholic School.
