SIKESTON -- Pearl Lewis Stafford, 84, of Sikeston, died Saturday, June 3, 2000. She was born Oct. 23, 1915, in Loretta, Tenn., daughter of William James and Martha Elizabeth Willis Hogue. She and O.C. Lewis were married Oct. 10, 1931. He died Oct. 9, 1977. She and Lester Stafford were married Nov. 26, 1979. He survives...

SIKESTON -- Pearl Lewis Stafford, 84, of Sikeston, died Saturday, June 3, 2000.

She was born Oct. 23, 1915, in Loretta, Tenn., daughter of William James and Martha Elizabeth Willis Hogue.

She and O.C. Lewis were married Oct. 10, 1931. He died Oct. 9, 1977. She and Lester Stafford were married Nov. 26, 1979. He survives.

Stafford and her first husband helped establish Tanner Street Church of God in Sikeston. They also founded Lewis Furniture and Kingsway Furniture stores, which continue to be owned and operated by their children.

Stafford volunteered for Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston and helped establish scholarship funds at Anderson University in Anderson, Ind., and at the Tanner Street Church.

Other survivors include, two sons, Don Lewis of Columbia, Dr. David Lewis of Anderson, Ind.; a daughter, Marilyn Moll of Cincinnati, Ohio; a stepdaughter, Wanda Underwood of Portageville; five brothers, Finis Hogue of Sikeston; Riggie Hogue of Galena, Dalton Hogue and the Rev. Grady Hogue, both of Anderson, Ind., and the Rev. Everett Hogue of Scott Depot, W.Va.; two sisters, Bonnie Bailey of Sikeston and Verla Horton of East Prairie; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Her parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel in Sikeston.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Tanner Street Church, with the Rev. Carl Addison officiating. Burial will be in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
