DEXTER, Mo. -- Pauline Dowdy, 92, died Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.
She was born Dec. 20, 1913, near Dexter, daughter of Bertis Monroe and Mabel Jennings Lawrence. She and Danzil Dowdy were married May 9, 1933, at Bloomfield, Mo. He died April 13, 1982.
Mrs. Dowdy was a member of Dexter Church of Christ, a former member of Bridge Church of Christ near Dexter, former licensed practical nurse at Dexter Memorial Hospital, member of Dexter Hospital Auxiliary, and Golden Age Quilters.
She was a volunteer for Reach to Recovery Breast Cancer Survivors Organization, American Red Cross, American Heart Association and American Cancer Society. She was a former 4-H leader and former sponsor for the Candy Stripers at Dexter Memorial Hospital.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Linda Dowdy of Dexter, Larry and Margaret Dowdy of Cape Girardeau; three daughters and sons-in-law, Janice and Bernie Crum of Park Hills, Mo., Roberta and Paul Sanders of Columbia, Mo., Gloria Lynn Dowdy of Kansas City, Mo.; a daughter-in-law, Elaine Dowdy of Dexter; three nieces, Dorlus Tucker of Dexter, Barbara Field and Leanna Canaday of Bakersfield, Calif.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sons, Darrol and Norval Lawrence Dowdy; and two brothers, Carl and Clyde Lawrence.
Friends may call at Rainey-Mathis Funeral Home in Dexter from 5 to 8 p.m. today.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Don Bahr officiating. Burial will be in Armstead Dowdy Cemetery near Dexter.
