VILLA RIDGE, Ill. -- Paul Edward Shelton, 84, of Villa Ridge died Thursday, March 15, 2001, at his home.
He was born March 27, 1916, in Broughton, Ill., son of John Edward and Lora Little Shelton. He married Anna Katherine Dowdy, who died Aug. 19, 1990.
Shelton was a truck driver 34 years with Martin Gas Co. near Cairo, Ill. He was a member of VFW Post 8891 of Mounds, Ill., and served as commander several years.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include four sons, Ralph Shelton of Benton, Ill., Larry "Pedro" Shelton of Olmsted, Ill., David Shelton of Herrin, Ill., Allen Shelton of Carterville, Ill.; a daughter, Sarah Smith of Carterville; two brothers, Herbert Shelton of Carbondale, Ill., Jack Shelton of Vienna, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Friends may call at Jones Funeral Home in Villa Ridge from 5-8 p.m. Sunday.
Funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ralph Kaufman officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery at Mound City, Ill., with full military honors by VFW Post 8891.
