ANNA, Ill. -- Paul Penland, 91, of Anna died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 8, 1916, in Cobden, Ill., son of Curtis and Ella Hewlett Penland. He and Opal F. Basinger were married Oct. 22, 1938, in Jackson. She died Jan. 9, 2007.
Penland was a member and deacon of Anna First Baptist Church. He worked for years delivering fuel oil and propane gas for Petty Oil Co., Elkins Gas Co. and Crawford Gas Co.
Survivors include a daughter, Paula Cochran of Clarksville, Tenn.; a son, Chuck Penland of Jackson; five sisters, Evelyn Launius of LaSalle, Ill., Norma Moon of Carterville, Ill., Roberta Castellano of Murphysboro, Ill., Ruby Hilton of Henderson, Tenn; Barbara Brandt of Roswell, N.M.; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, two brothers and two sisters.
The funeral was Saturday at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. The Revs. Verlee Eaker and Tony Foeller officiated. Burial was in Cobden Cemetery.
