SIKESTON -- Paul P. Holmes, 77, of Sikeston, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 1993, at his home.
He was born July 30, 1916, in Blodgett, son of James Clark and Emma Lee Ratley Holmes. He and Imogene Dudley were married Dec. 23, 1938, in New Madrid.
Holmes was a mail carrier with the U.S. Postal Service 28 years, and was assistant basketball coach at Sikeston High School in 1954-55.
He was an all-state basketball player at Sikeston High School, and formerly coached the Methodist church league basketball team.
Holmes was a member of First United Methodist Church, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Connie Garner of Monroe, La., Linda Nickell of Sikeston; two sisters, Eva Burnes of Memphis, Tenn., Emma Butler of Sikeston; a half sister, Ruth Mason of Sikeston; a stepbrother, Woodrow Hawkins of Sikeston; four grandsons, and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, sister, and stepfather.
Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Charles E. Buck will officiate, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. today.
