EAST PRAIRIE -- Paul Charles Summerfield, 78, of East Prairie, died Thursday, May 23, 1991, at the VA Medical Center in Poplar Bluff, following an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 28, 1912, at Kennett, son of Clarence Jacob and Mary Reece Summerfield. He and the former Christine Hale were married July 24, 1937.

Summerfield had lived here since 1956. He was a retired machinist, and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Charles Summerfield of East Prairie, Paul Summerfield of Kansas City; six brothers, Cecil Summerfield of Malden, Harrison Summerfield of Paris, Tenn., Bob Summerfield of St. Louis, Bill Summerfield of Springfield, Jim Summerfield of Alton, Clarence Summerfield of East Prairie; two sisters, Jane Nosek and Betty Summerfield of Dexter, and five grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Chapel here. The Rev. Larry Smith will officiate, with burial in Dogwood Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. today.
