ANNA, Ill. -- Paul D. Bishop, 81, of Anna died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Illinois Veterans Home in Anna. He was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Dongola, Ill., son of Hess and Jennie Aletha Manning Bishop. Bishop was a 1938 graduate of Dongola High School. He moved to and worked in Los Angeles, Calif., before joining the U.S. Navy in 1941. He served four years with the Black Cat Squadron VP-11. ANNA, Ill. -- Paul D. Bishop, 81, of Anna died Sunday, April 1, 2001, at Illinois Veterans Home in Anna.

He was born Feb. 23, 1920, in Dongola, Ill., son of Hess and Jennie Aletha Manning Bishop.

Bishop was a 1938 graduate of Dongola High School. He moved to and worked in Los Angeles, Calif., before joining the U.S. Navy in 1941. He served four years with the Black Cat Squadron VP-11. He received a Purple Heart.

He returned to California and was a delicatessen manager with Ralph's Grocery Store chain in Los Angeles until retiring in 1958 and moving to Pounding Mill, Va. He had been at the veterans home since 1999.

Survivors include nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Dongola from 10-11 a.m. Friday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Paul Sadler officiating. Burial will be in American Legion Cemetery in Dongola, with full military honors by Carroll P. Foster VFW Post 3455.
