CREVE COEUR, Mo. -- Patty Sue Winemiller Hastings, 79, of Creve Coeur and a former Cape Girardeau resident, passed away Tuesday, May 8, 2018, in Creve Coeur.

She was born May 25, 1938, in Whittington, Illinois, the daughter of Richard and Louise Clinton Winemiller.

Patty and Warren Steven Hastings married Aug. 29, 1959, and he preceded her in death Aug. 21, 1996.

She went to Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, was awarded a scholarship and received her bachelor's degree and became an elementary teacher in Cairo, Illinois. While in college, she was a member of Delta Zeta and in Cape Girardeau of Beta Sigma Phi.

After marrying Steve, they moved to Cape Girardeau and did a lot of traveling. When Steve passed away, Patty moved to St. Louis and became a doting grandmother.

Patty is survived by her daughter, Jamie Hastings-Omahen, and her husband, Michael, of Creve Coeur; granddaughter, Katherine "Katie" Omahen of Creve Coeur; sister, Phyllis (Marvin) Whittington of Whittington; nephews, Eric (Anita) Johnson and Robert (Melissa) Whittington; and niece, Christy Deputy.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh Cemetery in Whittington, with the Rev. Mark Minor officiating. There will be no visitation. Those attending the service are asked to meet at the cemetery.

Morton and Johnston Funeral Home in Benton, Illinois, is in charge of arrangements.
