Patricia Louise Howell Uptain was born in West Frankfort, Illinois, May 4, 1925. She passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2021, in Cape Girardeau at the age of 95. She was the daughter of U.R. and Ruth Howell.

In 1952 she married John Uptain. They had two children, Laura Uptain and Bryan Uptain.

Pat grew up on the Howell farm near Lone Rock between Oran and Chaffee, Missouri. She attended local rural schools and later graduated from the Class of 1942 at Oran High School and was the last living member of her class. She then graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with a degree in teaching, English and art. She taught 40 years, beginning at Hooe Rural School, then Oran Public Schools and Kelly School.

After retirement, Pat had many hobbies: quilt-making, photography, writing poetry and planting and working with flowers. She loved big family dinners, of which she was the hostess and cook to many.

Pat was a lifetime member of the Oran Methodist Church and later moved to the Maple United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

She was preceded in death by her mother, father, husband and sister, Barbara Tyler.

She is survived by her daughter, Laura Uptain of Taft, California; son, Bryan Uptain of Cape Girardeau; three grandsons, Nick Uptain, Clay Uptain and Ethan (Caryann) Robinson; great-grandson, Brayden Uptain; and great-granddaughter, Mila Uptain.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Pastor Kim Mitchell officiating. Interment will follow at Friends Cemetery in Oran

In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, in Pat's name.
