COLUMBIA, Mo. -- Patricia Lee "Teash" Hinkebein, 64, of Columbia passed away at 4:02 p.m., Tuesday, June 28, 2022, at home surrounded by her family.
She was the daughter of Maurice and Leila Patnode Wood. Her siblings are Emily Rose Bowen, who died April 9, 1992; Daniel Wood; Paul Wood; Timothy Wood; Susan Wood Allen; Mary Alice Wood Bernal; and Lisa Wood Grimm.
She and Joseph Harold Hinkebein were married on Aug. 13, 1983, in St. Louis.
Loving survivors include her husband, Dr. Joseph Hinkebein of Columbia; sons, Benjamin (Kaitlyn), Andrew (Caroline) and Matthew Hinkebein, all of Columbia; and grandchild, Frankie Lee Hinkebein.
Patricia was a loving mother, daughter and sister. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbia and was active in the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the Pro-Life Ministry.
Born in Watertown, New York, her family moved to St. Louis in 1960, where she attended St. Cecilia's Grade School. She graduated from St. Anthony of Padua High School in St. Louis in 1976 and from Lutheran Nursing School in St. Louis in 1979. In 1981 she graduated magna cum laude from Southwest Missouri State University with a bachelor's degree in nursing.
An acclaimed singer, songwriter and musician, Patricia played piano, guitar, hammered dulcimer, banjo and ukulele. Her harmony talents were sought after, and she played in the Triple Creek Trio in Columbia. She loved traditional music and played with family and friends every chance she could.
She loved children and worked in a variety of pediatric nursing roles, including at her last place of employment -- My Life Clinic; as a school nurse in the Columbia School District; several years as a pediatric intensive care nurse at University of Missouri Hospital, and in the emergency room at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital.
Patricia displayed remarkable strength in the face of incredible odds with a determination to live life fully and care for her family and friends during her battle with advanced cancer. She was miraculously able to participate in the weddings of two of her sons. She also got to meet her first grandson. She was an inspiration to all who knew her.
Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Columbia.
Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11 a.m. Interment will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Michael's Cemetery near Perryville, Missouri.
