Patricia "Pat/Patsy" Ann Brase, 70, of Cape Girardeau passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2023, at home surrounded by family. The cause of death was bone cancer that she courageously fought for the past two and a half years.
She was born Dec. 12, 1952, to Albert and Martha Eftink of Chaffee, Missouri. She married Dan A. Brase on Sept. 8, 1978, in Cape Girardeau. He survives.
Pat spent many years working in administration at Colonial Federal Savings & Loan and Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation office. She led a life full of community involvement and hobbies, spending time on various committees at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council No. 1111 Auxiliary and always helping her children with their activities as room mother, den mother and Girl Scout cookie chair. Pat was especially known for her baking and cake decorating, making many birthday cakes and wedding cakes for friends and family. She was a prolific sewer, volunteering for ugly quilts, dresses for Haiti and making face masks at the beginning of the pandemic. Her greatest joy was sewing princess dresses and other outfits for her beloved granddaughter.
In addition to her husband of 44 years, she is survived by a son, Todd Brase of Columbia, Missouri; daughter, Trisha (Marc) Duncan of Chesterfield, Missouri; and granddaughter, Eloise Duncan of Chesterfield. She is also survived by brothers, Jerome Eftink of Chaffee, David (Kathy) Eftink of Oran, Missouri, and Greg (Shirley) Eftink of Scott City; sisters, Marti (Tom) Obermann of Chaffee, Clara (Donald) Essner of Chaffee, Sarah (Rick) Ross of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, and Betty Eftink of Jackson; sister-in-law, Charlotte Eftink of Bloomsdale, Missouri; brothers-in-law, Harvey (Beverly) Brase of Gordonville and Robert (Janet) Brase of Jackson; plus many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Martha Eftink; father- and mother-in-law, Harvey and Luella Brase; brother, James Eftink; niece, Laura Eftink; nephews, Matt Eftink and Jeremy Essner; brother-in-law, James Diebold; and sister-in-law, Sharlett Eftink.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 30, at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau. Parish prayers will be at 7 p.m. that evening, followed by Knights of Columbus rosary.
Funeral Mass will at 10 a.m. Monday, May 1, at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Cape Girardeau, with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial will be at Zion United Methodist Cemetery in Gordonville.
Bereavement dinner will follow at Knights of Columbus Council No. 1111, 318 S. Spanish St. in Cape Girardeau.
In lieu of flowers, charitable donations may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Parish, Saint Francis Medical Center Foundation or Siteman Cancer Center's Pedal the Cause.
