Patricia A. Bixler, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Nov. 2, 2019, at Life Care Center of Cape Girardeau, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Sept. 7, 1933, in Lilbourn, Missouri, to James William and Mary Francis Welsh Hopper.
She and Charles Lee Bixler were married Oct. 5, 1954, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Sikeston, Missouri. He preceded her in death Aug. 18, 2007.
She was a graduate of Canalou, Missouri, High School in 1951 and Jewish School of Nursing in St. Louis in 1954.
She worked as a nurse at Southeast Hospital and Cape LaCroix Manor and retired from American Red Cross.
Patricia enjoyed reading, gardening, taking a drive to see crops being harvested and playing bridge. She had a love for writing and even had a chapter published in "Canalou: People, Culture, Bootheel Town," written by Danny Whittle.
She loved her children and grandchildren unconditionally. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her so much joy.
Survivors include her daughter, Lisa (Larry) Booton of Cape Girardeau; son, Vince (Christy) Bixler of Cape Girardeau; sister, Betty Ellington of Portageville, Missouri; brother, John (Roberta) Hopper of Chesterfield, Illinois; grandchildren, Lindsay (Corey) Bohnert of Richmond, Virginia, Clayton (Saylor) Hardesty of Cape Girardeau, Allison Hardesty of Cottleville, Missouri, and Nicholas Bixler of Cape Girardeau; and great-grandchildren, Reed and Lila Bohnert, both of Richmond, and Laney Hardesty of Cape Girardeau.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and sister, Rosemary Millar.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Ron Watts officiating. Burial will be at Garden of Memories in Sikeston.
Memorial contributions may be given to Cape Girardeau Public Library.
