Pansy Limbaugh Connors, 81, died Thursday, May 24, 2001, at United States Soldiers Airmen Home in Washington, D.C.

She was born Dec. 29, 1919, and lived in Cape Girardeau, where she graduated from College High School in 1938.

Ms. Connors enlisted in the Women's Army Corps April 26, 1945. After a short term as a medical technician, she was a company clerk. She was discharged Oct. 25, 1946, with the rank of corporal.

She rejoined the Army Oct. 20, 1947, and went to Fort Leavenworth, Kan. In 1948 she became a part of the regular Army. Her request for overseas duty took her to Vienna, Austria and Salzburg. While at Headquarters USFA she was assigned to personnel.

In 1953 Ms. Connors went to Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., in recruiting. Later she was at Fort Monroe, Va., in personnel and was in charge of mobilization designees. She went on duty June 14, 1961, as a warrant officer at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind. From there she was sent to Heidelberg, Germany, with the Signal Corps. Here she was awarded her first Oak Leaf Cluster.

She completed 20 years of service July 31, 1966, and received her second Oak Leaf Cluster to her Army commendation medal. Her decorations also include a Good Conduct with four knots, World War II Victory medal, Army of Occupation (USAF), and a National Defense medal. She retired as a chief warrant officer 2.

Ms. Connors was preceded in death by grandparents, John and Alma Limbaugh; parents, Cledes and Jessie Lou Slinkard Limbaugh; and a sister, Virginia Howard.

She is survived by two sisters, Jeanette Sams of Cape Girardeau and Janice Landess of Soldotna, Alaska.

She was a resident of Missouri Veterans Home from June 17, 1996, to Feb. 15, 2000, at which time she returned to the United States Soldiers Airmen Home.

There is no visitation.

A graveside service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2001, at Cape County Memorial Park. The Rev. William Burke will officiate.

Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family of Ms. Connors requests no flowers. Memorials may be made to Southeast Hospice.
