OLIVE BRANCH, Miss. -- A memorial service for Palmer Hacker Jr., 79, of Olive Branch, who died Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2021, at Baptist Hospital in Oxford, Mississippi, will be at 11 a.m., Monday at Maples Memorial Methodist Church in Olive Branch with the Rev. Neville Vanderburg officiating.

Hacker was born in Cape Girardeau Aug. 23, 1942, to Palmer and Ruby Brock Hacker. He was a student at the University of Missouri before entering the U.S. Army for service in the Vietnam War. He later graduated from Southeast Missouri State University upon completion of his service and received a degree in accounting at Memphis State.

He married the former Joan Eason on Jan. 9, 1971, and the two lived in Memphis and Olive Branch for the 50 years of their marriage.

Hacker worked in the real estate industry focused on hotel franchises and was named Holiday Inn's top franchise salesman during his career. He was a long-time member of Maples Memorial Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Joan; two daughters, Holly (Jon) Alverson of Greenville, Mississippi, and Kristin (Scott) Jungels of Rockwall, Texas; sister, Carol Gilmore of Sikeston, Missouri; and five grandchildren, Walker Brewer, Hannah Jungels, Jack Jungels, Shel Alverson and Canon Alverson.

In lieu of flowers the family asked donations be made to Maples Memorial Methodist Church in memory of Palmer Hacker.

Mortimer National Funeral Home in Grenada, Mississippi, is in charge of arrangements.
