CHARLESTON -- O.V. Coffer, 72, of Charleston died Monday, Jan. 25, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 12, 1926, in Mississippi County, son of Brad and Lucille Holdness Coffer. He and Dorothy L. McAfee were married March 14, 1946.

Coffer retired as a mechanic from Noranda Aluminum. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Herman Coffer of Sikeston; a daughter, Fleeta Duke of St. Charles; his mother of Bertrand; three brothers, Larry Coffer of East Prairie, Charles Coffer of Wickliffe, Ky., Henry Coffer of Charleston; a sister, Leota Groce of Wickliffe; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father and two brothers.

Friends may call at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie after 5 p.m. today.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with Dolan Rogers and Bill Summers officiating. Burial will be in Dogwood Cemetery.
