Oscar Walter Preusser, 85, of St. Louis passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, at his home. He was born March 31, 1924, in Shawneetown, son of Otto R. and Hedwig "Hattie" Hemman Preusser. Oscar Walter Preusser, 85, of St. Louis passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, at his home.

He was born March 31, 1924, in Shawneetown, son of Otto R. and Hedwig "Hattie" Hemman Preusser. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Shawneetown. He and Viola Mae Ruesler were married Oct. 28, 1950, in Friedheim.

Oscar graduated from Jackson High School in 1942 and attended Southeast Missouri State University until his induction into the U.S. Army on Feb. 25, 1943. He was honorably discharged Jan. 1, 1946, as a sergeant.

Loving survivors include his wife of 58 years; five children, Susan (Harold) Baca, Patricia (Matthew) Sciuto, Robert (Dana) Preusser, Edie Buettmann and John (Laura) Preusser; grandchildren, David (Amanda) Baca, Sharon and Paul Baca, Alex and Ellen Sciuto, Eric and Sara Buettmann and Jennifer, Sam, Nick and Colleen Preusser; a great-grandson, Blaise Baca; two brothers, Gus (Virgie) Pruesser and Norman (Ruby) Preusser.

Also surviving are brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard (Katy) Ruesler, Vilet (Melvin) Robert, Anna (Earl) Martin, Bernard Winschle, Kenneth (Ida) Buerck and Marian Preusser; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Leona (Charles) Rich, and a brother, Nelson Preusser.

A service was held May 13 in St. Louis. Interment with full military honors was in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis.
