LILBOURN -- Oscar T. Hughes, 88, of Lilbourn died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.
He was born July 20, 1911, in Aberdeen, Miss., son of John and Maggie Cunningham Hughes. He first married Mary A. Moore Boston. He later married Dorothy Mae Green, who died in 1978.
Hughes was retired from Noranda Aluminum. He also had been a custodian at New Madrid County School District, and a policeman in Lilbourn. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Lilbourn and former choir member, and a member of Howard Lodge 72 AF&AM in Howardville.
Survivors include nine sons, Gregory, Richard and Okie Hughes of Lilbourn, Cliff Hughes and Albert Smith of New Madrid, Ronnie Hughes of Cape Girardeau, Ricky Smith of Wichita, Kan., L.T. and Danny Hughes of Detroit, Mich.; 10 daughters, Mary Evans and Gale Grandberry of Lilbourn, Ada Greer of Lansing, Mich., Ruby Gilstrap of Lansing, Kan., Alma Farr and Mae Daniels of Rockford, Ill., Barbara Bradley of Detroit, Irma Robinson of Cape Girardeau, Linda Blair and Thelma Smith of St. Louis.
Also surviving are three stepchildren, Edward Hughes, Jacquelin Moore and Spencer Perkins of Detroit; three sisters, Inez Hall of Cape Girardeau, Maggie Jones of Little Rock, Ark., Estella Ewing of St. Louis; a friend, Mozella Glass of Lilbourn; 66 grandchildren; and 72 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and a daughter.
Friends may call at Mt. Olive Church from 7-8 p.m. Thursday. A Masonic service will be held at 7.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. Ernest Willis officiating. Burial will be in Simmons Park Cemetery at Catron.
