Oscar L. Doran, 78, of Jackson passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born March 8, 1935, in Cabot, Ark., to Virgil L. and Thelma Brannon Doran. Oscar L. Doran, 78, of Jackson passed away Monday, April 1, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 8, 1935, in Cabot, Ark., to Virgil L. and Thelma Brannon Doran. He and Clara Mae Driskill were married June 14, 1953, in Cabot. They had been married 50 years when she passed away Aug. 6, 2003.

Oscar served nine months in the National Guard prior to his Navy enlistment. He honorably served in the U.S. Navy from Sept. 5, 1952, to Jan. 14, 1953.

He was a career mechanic, moving from Cabot to Jackson in 1976, at which time he began his 35-year career with Cape Starter and Alternator in Jackson. He retired in 2011. He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church near Gordonville and its Come Join Us Sunday school class.

Loving survivors include six children, April (Michael) Southerland of Jacksonville, Ark., Linda Mahoney of Jackson, Robin (Dennis) Lukefahr of St. Louis, Steve (Pam) Doran of Jackson, Wayne (Carla) Doran of Gordonville and Tina (Charles) Brugger of Jackson; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and four siblings, Rose Marie, Laverne, Gaylon and Paul.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by five siblings, Ruth, Maggaline, Thomas, Troy and Lula.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson, and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday at Zion United Methodist Church.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Joel Kidwell officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery with full military honors.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Zion United Methodist Memorial Fund.
