CROSSTOWN, Mo. -- Orville E. Bachmann, 86, of Crosstown died Saturday, March 2, 2013, at Independence Care Center of Perry County in Perryville, Mo.
He was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Farrar, Mo., son of Ernst and Emma Hadler Bachmann. He and Esther Mueller were married May 21, 1949. She preceded him in death Sept. 20, 2010.
Orville worked for MFA Menfro branch 42 years. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Crosstown, its Men's Club, LLL and Thrivent Branch. He held many church offices, most recently as a treasurer. He was a member of American Legion Post 133 in Perryville, Mo. Orville enjoyed fishing, cutting firewood, caring for his blackberry plants, growing irises and doing jigsaw puzzles.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Survivors include two sons, David (Gail) Bachmann of Deer Park, Ill., and Roy Bachmann of St. Louis; four daughters, Sharon Bachmann of Springfield, Mo., Glenda Bachmann of Gladstone, Mo., Sandra Bachmann of Kansas City, Mo., and Charlene Bachmann of Hoyleton, Ill.; two brothers, Norman (Dorothy) Bachmann of St. Louis and Raymond (Annette "Anne") Bachmann of Brownstown, Ind.; three sisters, Aldine (Leroy) Muench of Cissna Park, Ill., Loretta Givens and Euline (Norman) Koenig of Perryville; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; a brother, Vernold Bachmann; and a brother-in-law, Arthur "Bill" Givens.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 6:30 to 8:30 a.m. Friday at Young and Sons Funeral Home. An American Legion wake will be at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Zion Lutheran Church in Crosstown, with the Rev. Roger Abernathy officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, with military graveside rites provided by American Legion Post 133 and Delta Team.
Memorials are preferred to Zion Lutheran Church in Crosstown or Lutheran Hour Ministries.
