BENTON, Mo. -- Orland James Bollinger Sr., 87, of Benton died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at his son's home in Benton.
He was born July 4, 1916, at Benton, son of Theodore and Rosa Vogel Bollinger. He and Mary Jane Brock were married Aug. 31, 1941, at Benton.
Bollinger was a lifetime resident of Benton and a member of St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton. He began working at Scott County Abstract Company in 1945 for Harris Rogers. He and his brother-in-law, E.R. Tirmenstein bought the company in 1954.
Mr. Bollinger's son Jim joined the firm and worked with him until 1974, when the company was sold to a niece and her husband, Carol and Tom Gilmore. It is now called SEMO Title Company, located in Sikeston, Mo. Bollinger retired in 1995 after 50 years in the title business. He was an active member of the Benton community and was an avid dancer. Bollinger served in the U.S. Air Force for four years.
Survivors include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Orland Jim and Linda Bollinger, Jr. of Benton; a sister, Berniece Buck of Sikeston, and a grandson, O. J. Bollinger III of Benton.
Friends may call today from 4 to 8 p.m. at Ford and Sons Benton Funeral Home. Parish prayers will be Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral will be Tuesday at 10 a.m. at St. Denis Catholic Church in Benton. Father Normand Varone will officiate, with burial in the St. Denis Church Cemetery. Graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 3838.
