TAMMS, Ill. -- Oris W. Mowery, 83, of Tamms died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 1998, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 6, 1914, in Alexander County, son of Edward Calvin and Martha Rachel Bundschuh Mowery. He and Edna Brown were married Oct. 6, 1936.
Mowery was a machinist with Southern Pacific Railroad in Nevada, farmed in the Dongola area from 1946-62, and retired as a machinist with Kerr-McGee Corp. in Hamilton, Miss. The Mowerys returned to Southern Illinois in 1980.
He was a member of Crossroads United Methodist Church in Ullin and Pulaski-Alexander County Farm Bureau.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Don Mowery of North Port, Fla., Edward Mowery of Tallahassee, Fla.; a foster son, Albert Valentine of Hattiesburg, Miss.; three foster daughters, Dollie Osman of Bloomington, Ind., Pam Wilemon of Fulton, Miss., Patty Vaughn of Amory, Miss.; two brothers, Orville Mowery of Green Valley, Ariz., D.L. "Jack" Mowery of Sonoma, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Crain Funeral Home in Ullin from 6-8 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Beech Grove United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Rick Bishop officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery.
