Oris Douglas Hill Jr., 66, of Cape Girardeau died Monday, July 29, 2013, at Saint Francis Medical Center.
He was born July 3, 1947, in Cairo, Ill., to the late Oris Hill Sr. and Dorothy Price Hill Robertson. He and Mary L. Sawyer-Rollins were married Sept. 1, 2002, in Cairo.
Oris graduated from Lakeland University in Milwaukee with a degree in chemistry and math. He went on to teach in Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Missouri. He received a national merit scholarship award. He was of the Baptist belief and was a lay minister in the Baptist church.
Something Oris was proud of was that his father, Oris Hill Sr., was one of the original Harlem Globetrotters.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Rollins-Hill of Cape Girardeau; stepfather, Robert Roberson of Cairo; stepmother, Mertha Roberson of Cairo; a stepson, Rodney Sawyer of St. Louis; two stepdaughters, Stephanie Rollins and Sherry Hartle of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Derrick Hill of Chicago and Rory Roberson of San Diego; a sister, Aubertine Gallion of Cairo; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon Hill; and a stepdaughter, Delphanie Rollins.
There is no service at this time.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
