Oren O. Ellis Sr., 97, 1530 N. Main, died Tuesday, Oct. 28, 1997, at Southeast Missouri Hospital.
He was born Sept. 15, 1900, at Oriole, son of Ruben and Francis Summers Ellis. He and Mae Simmons were married Feb. 2, 1924, at Benton. She died June 25, 1982.
Ellis retired from International Shoe Co. in 1965. He was a charter member of Bethany Baptist Church, former deacon and Sunday School teacher, and had served as president of the Brotherhood.
Survivors include four sons, Harold and Elwood Ellis of Cape Girardeau, Oren Ellis Jr. of Perryville, the Rev. Gene Ellis of Casey, Ill.; three daughters, Shirlene Riley and Shirley Ellis of Cape Girardeau, Judy Davis of Metropolis, Ill.; 14 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, five sisters, and a great-grandchild.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Bethany Baptist Church, with the Revs. Donny Ford and Lester Butler officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
