COBDEN, Ill. — Oralee Broussard Poteet, 78, passed away at 4:30 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2023, at Union County Hospital in Anna, Illinois.
She was born to Oralee Simon and Vera Dunlap Broussard on July 18, 1943. She spent her childhood between Florida and Louisiana.
Oralee met and married Robert Poteet. They were married nearly 55 years.
The Poteets moved to Cape Girardeau from San Antonio in the late 1980s. Robert taught at Southeast Missouri State University, while Oralee worked as a counselor and got her master's degree.
Both Oralee and Robert loved animals. They bought some land in 1993 in Illinois and built a home. Oralee brought one horse from Texas and bought more during their time on the farm. Among their animals were many cats and dogs. Oralee loved Airedales. She spent her time away from work taking horse lessons, writing short stories and traveling with her friends.
Oralee leaves behind a sister-in law, brother-in-law, a few distant cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her beloved Robert in 2022.
Her friends would like to thank the staffs who cared for her at Integrity Nursing Home in Cobden and Union County Hospital.
Interment will be decided at a later date.
Crain Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Cape Girardeau is in charge of her cremation.
