CHARLESTON -- Opal Frances Pilbeam, 85, of Detroit, Mich., died Thursday, May 27, 1999, at Botsfrod Hospital in Farmington Mill, Mich.
She was born May 11, 1914, in Poplar Bluff, daughter of A.G. and Sallie Seypholtosky. She and Harry W. Pilbeam were married Dec. 28, 1940. He preceded her in death.
Pilbeam was a 1932 graduate of St. Vincent's Academy for Young Women in Kansas City.
She was employed by Michigan Bell Telephone Co. 32 years, including various supervisory positions. She later completed the American Travel School study course and became a travel agent.
Pilbeam was president of Michigan Bell Women's Club and received the Woman of the Year Award. She also served as a member and officer on the Brighton Community Center Board of Directors in Detroit from 1986 until becoming ill in January 1999.
Survivors include a nephew, Orlin Johnson of Poplar Bluff, and a niece, Norma Marshall of Charleston.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
Graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Dogwood Cemetery near Charleston. The Rev. Larry Smith will officiate.
Friends may call at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston after 9 a.m. Thursday.
