Opal Nance

Opal Henson Nance, 78, formerly of Cape Girardeau County, passed away Friday, April 11, 2008, at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro.

She was born Nov. 23, 1930, in Buckhorn, Mo., daughter of Oscar Odell and Hattie Louella Hovis Henson. She married Ernest Nathan Nance, who preceded her in death.

Opal had resided in Jackson and Cape Girardeau; North Carolina; Clarksville, Tenn.; and for the past six years in Murfreesboro.

For a number of years she was employed as a manager at Marine Corps Exchange, from where she retired. After retirement, she started a business called Soft Creations. In this venture she used her talents in creating several types of custom quilts and pillows.

Loving survivors include a daughter, Deborah Marlene Nance; a son, Douglas Nathan (Judy) Nance; a grandson, Nathan A. Nance; a granddaughter, Sharon M. Nance, all of Murfreesboro; a sister, Glenda Henson Kothe Crane of Palmyra, Mo.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers, Howard, Lloyd, Harley and Freeman Henson; two sisters, Dorothy Henson Laxton and Millie Henson Sides Waldon.

Visitation was held April 13 at Jennings and Ayers Funeral Home in Murfreesboro.

A graveside service was conducted April 14 at Roselawn Memorial Gardens in Murfreesboro, with the Rev. Doyle Hayes of Murfreesboro Unity Baptist Church officiating.
