PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — Opal Lawson, 87, of Portageville died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, in Cape Girardeau. She was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Catron, Mo., daughter of Aloheus Ernie and Lydia Kathryn Graham Fair. She and Sam Lawson were married May 8, 1939, in New Madrid, Mo. He died June 17, 1977...

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. — Opal Lawson, 87, of Portageville died Sunday, Dec. 7, 2008, in Cape Girardeau.

She was born Aug. 22, 1921, in Catron, Mo., daughter of Aloheus Ernie and Lydia Kathryn Graham Fair. She and Sam Lawson were married May 8, 1939, in New Madrid, Mo. He died June 17, 1977.

Survivors include three sons, Sammy and Roger Lawson of Portageville, Ernie Lawson of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; two daughters, Florence Dugger of Sikeston, Mo., Sherry Hooe of Cape Girardeau; two brothers, Vearl Fair of Festus, Mo., Charles Fair of Senatobia, Miss.; three sisters, Jewell Black of Granite City, Ill., Louise Mayo of Ferguson, Mo., Mearl Blankenship of Arnold, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, three grandsons, six brothers and three sisters.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville, with Dr. Buck Morton officiating.
