ADVANCE -- Opal Carlton, 89, of Advance, died Friday, Dec. 2, 1994, at Advance Nursing and Residential Care Center.
She was born Jan. 14, 1905, in Advance, daughter of Hays and Nellie Umfleet Guthrie. She and Otto Carlton were married March 30, 1921, at Marble Hill. He died April 17, 1985.
Carlton lived near Greenbrier most of her life, moving to Advance in 1971.
Survivors include a son, Clinton Carlton of Zalma; a daughter, Helen Bowers of Jackson; two half brothers, the Rev. Marcus Ladd of Cape Girardeau, Charlie Ladd of Marble Hill; two half sisters, Goldie Pickett of Advance, Lillian Schaffert of Indianola, Neb.; eight grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandson.
She was preceded in death by a brother, half brother, stepbrother, two stepsisters, and two great-granddaughters.
Friends may call at Morgan Funeral Home from 4-8 p.m. today.
Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Norman Elledge and Otis Littles officiating. Burial will be in Balch Cemetery near Zalma.
